DHLM raises holiday cheer for its Honolulu City Lights tree
The holiday spirit is already making its way to DHLM! 🎄✨
Our team came together today for our Honolulu City Lights Christmas Tree Fundraiser, with homemade food, baked goods, treats and rummage sale finds — all to help bring this year’s department tree to life.
Honolulu City Lights has been a City tradition since 1985, when Mayor Frank F. Fasi launched a free holiday celebration at Honolulu Hale. Over the decades, the celebration has grown to include some of Honolulu’s most recognizable holiday traditions, including Shaka Santa, Tūtū Mele, the Public Workers’ Electric Light Parade and the annual display of Christmas trees decorated by City departments and employees.
This year will mark DHLM’s second time participating in the department tree tradition since our department was established in 2025. Last year, we made our Honolulu City Lights debut with a colorful “K-Pop Christmas.” This year, we’re trading K-Pop for country with a “Christmas in the Country” theme! 🤠🎄
Anna Kim and Emelia Mayer from our Policy Division are coordinating this year’s effort on behalf of DHLM, bringing staff from across the department together to help make the tree a reality. Today’s fundraiser is one of the first steps toward bringing their “Christmas in the Country” vision to Honolulu Hale this holiday season.
Mahalo to everyone who cooked, baked, donated, volunteered and stopped by to support the fundraiser. We’re excited to once again be part of this longtime City tradition and can’t wait to share the finished tree!
